The DRC is producing two new Codes of Practice to accompany
the changes to Part 2 of the DDA coming in to force on 1 October
2004. |

Since September 2002, if you are a disabled student over 16
and think you have been discriminated against, you can challenge
this under the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA). |

A disabled man has failed in his bid to make his local railway
station accessible to disabled travellers. |

regulations reviewed |
The Office of the Deputy Prime Minister (ODPM) has announced
a review of the building regulations, with the possibility of
including “lifetime homes” standards. |

Many disabled people find it impossible to book a holiday,
open a bank account or buy theatre tickets online, an investigation
by the DRC into web access revealed this week. |

and Bars need to get in on the Act |
From 1st October 2004, every business, large or small - from
local off licenses to pubs, restaurants and hotels in the UK
- will need to become more user-friendly to Britain’s
8.6 million disabled people. |

to the DDA affect small employers |
A short document for small employers on the changes to the
employment parts of the Disability Discrimination Act from 1st
October 2004 is available on their web site. |
| Is your pub Open 4 All? |
The DRC will be exhibiting at the Pub & Bar Convention
from 30th March to 1st April 2004. If you're a landlord, hotelier
or restaurateur then come and visit stand F94 to pick up information
about the duties coming into force on 1st October 2004 that
may affect you. |
| New online disability
assessment toolkit available for SMEs |
In partnership with BT, the Disability Rights Commission has
developed an online Self Appraisal Toolkit. The toolkit is designed
to enable small and medium sized enterprises to identify areas
where business development could help them respond positively
to the requirements of the Disability Discrimination Act 1995. |
| Ryanair
Wheelchair Fee Ruled Unlawful |
An £18 wheelchair charge levied on Ryanair’s disabled
passengers is unlawful, a court recently ruled. |
