Access Hull is provides local accessibility information to the disabled residents and visitors to the City of Hull. It also offers a DDA for for the benefit of local business, service and Internet providers. In October 2000, the latest DDA legislation comes into force and will, no doubt, effect every one of us.

"Disabled people are fighting for a society which celebrates difference, a society which does not react to physical, sensory or intellectual impairments, or emotional distress, with fear and prejudice. We want a society that recognises the difficulties we face, but which also values us for what we are. Our hopes for the future are based on the justice of our wish for control over our lives, the strength of our demands for equal participation, the passion of our belief in the value of our contribution to the communities in which we live".

The 2001 National Census recorded that over 20% of the City of Hull had a limiting long term illness of some kind which, in Hull, amounts for almost 50,000 people. That is why the early compliance with the DDA makes sense for all local traders. That is a lot of people with a lot of money to spend. The DRC also have the legislative powers to ensure you do.

So just who has to comply? Well, quite simply, everyone. Elsewhere on this site we provide an Information Bank of resources so that you can discover exactly how the act might effect you and your business. In the meantime, why not show the DRC and the disabled people of Hull, visitors and tourists what your organisation is doing to make your goods and services available to everyone. A sponsored link in the Access Hull database, will let everyone know that you really do care.
